Project Description:

Location/Communities Affected:
      Grants Mountain, St. Ann
The facility lies in South West St. Ann, in the community of Grants Mountain. Grants
Mountain is located near Alexandria and Murray Mountain.

Background and Purpose:
The Grants Mountain rainwater concrete catchment and tank was built in 1992 by the Government of Jamaica. The facility lies in the community of Grants Mountain which is in close proximity to the town of Alexandria and the district of Murray Mountain. The concrete storage tank in the facility has a capacity of approximately 378,541.18 litres which can serve an approximately 2,400 residents. However, the storage tank could not store water as it was leaking from the bottom and sides. In addition to the leakages in the tank, the perimeter fencing was broken and the catchment area was in need of minor repairs. Grants Mountain had no other water source, therefore, the Government of Jamaica made the decision to repair this facility so that the residents could have a reliable source of potable (drinkable) water.
The repairs to the storage tank and the resulting reliable water supply have led to residents relying less on expensive trucked water from private truckers.

Projected Outputs:
The outputs of the project were:
  •          The replacing of the catchment fencing and a part of the perimeter fencing.
  •          The repairing of the storage tank walls.

  •          The bushing of the compound and other miscellaneous works.
