JOB PURPOSE:

 The incumbent is responsible for:

  • Design of Civil Engineering works – particularly water and housing related infrastructure including water supply, wastewater and drainage systems
  • Project Planning and Evaluation
  • Implementation Scheduling
  • Cost Estimating
  • Design documentation, specification development and tendering
    • Report Preparation and Presentation

     

 KEY OUTPUTS:

 

·         Design standards are upheld and appraised

·         Technical reports are completed

·         Reports on the relevant investigations and monitoring of projects completed

·         Relevant engineering studies completed

·         Project profiles are completed for each project undertaken

  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Undertaking site investigations island wide
  • Preparing preliminary engineering designs and feasibility reports on water supply, sewage, drainage and related works
  • Preparing project proposals, project profiles including costing of projects
  • Evaluating proposals and prepare implementation schedules
  • Must be willing to work outside of regular working hours if required

1)      The degree to which projects are completed to specifications and within a time frame

2)      Timeliness of reports and the quality of submissions

3)      Maintenance of good professional relationship with other Rural Water Supply Limited employees and contractors on projects

4)      Adhere to Policies and Procedures of Rural Water Supply Limited

 

 

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

1)      Sound knowledge of Civil and Mechanical Engineering practices

2)      Thorough knowledge of water utility operations

3)      Knowledge of various standards contract procedures

5)      Experience in Project Control Management

6)      Knowledge of relevant computer applications including Micro Soft Projects

7)      Proven ability in identifying multiple contract approach to project implementation

9)      Ability to program realistic implementation activities

12)  Efficiently manages the operational elements of projects finance and budgeting

SPECIAL CONDITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE JOB:

 

8:30a.m. – 5:00p.m (Monday – Thursday)

8:30a.m. – 4:00p.m (Fridays)

 

However, may be required to work beyond normal working hours.

 

On call 24 hour to deal with emergencies

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  1. University degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  2. Postgraduate studies in Hydraulic/Environmental or Sanitary Engineering or related field would be an asset
  3. Proficiency in the use of design and other software including Microsoft Office, including Civil 3D AutoCAD and Water/Hydraulic modelling software
  4. Registration as a Professional Engineer (or eligibility to be registered)
  5. Minimum five (5) years’ experience in Civil Engineering and design activities

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

 

Reports to: General Manager Engineering through Engineering Manager

Nature of Supervision Received: Periodic supervision to monitor work progress
